Planning a session is very exciting! Every family is unique and has a different lifestyle – preparing for the session it’s worth taking a min. to describe your family. Are you a romantic type that would love to lay down in a field of grass, or do you prefer that urban feel…how about the beach???? Would you like to get creative and style your family in retro style or maybe just have someone come to your home and capture you in your own environment. The more you describe your family and discuss it with me, the better the results.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK?
I usually book several weeks in advance and have a limited number of sessions a month. So book early to avoid disappointment.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
This is very important!!! All family members need to wear co-ordinated outfits. Now that doesn’t have to mean matchy matchy…just variations on a theme, or similar colours throughout. Styling should be planned ahead I am happy to discuss this with you if you need advice or are unsure of which direction to take. Props and locations are matched with the style of clothing you will choose for you family. Bright and colourful is usually best for kids. It’s best to bring a few sets of clothes to your shoot so you can have a wide variety of images to choose from. Here are some suggestions for places that stock great kids wear.
I adore props especially when photographing children, hats, scarves, old suitcases, trunks, tricycles. I will generally bring a variety of things along to make our shots unique. Feel free to bring along anything you think would personalise your shots.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
Generally sessions last around 2- 2.5 hours depending on how many subjects are to be photographed. Kids only have a limited time they will be happy to co operate for. I always advise my parents to bring along snacks…no I’m not beyond bribery….and some favourite toys, anything really you think will keep your little one happy and content through the shoot.
WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST FOR MY PORTRAITS?
I always shoot my children and families outdoors, I much prefer the more natural interaction with the enviroment than a studio situation. Outdoor portraits are best scheduled in the late afternoon, the sun is much lower in the sky and makes for a more pleasing portrait.
DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH LARGE FAMILY GROUPS?
My style of photography is more relaxed and larger groups require a lot more posing which is not really my style. I am happy to suggest other photographers who would suit your needs better.
HELP…MY KIDS ARE SICK
If your child is feeling ill, please call to re-schedule. It is better to re-schedule to a day that your child is feeling a lot happier than to keep the appointment . I want to be able to capture your littlies at their best to provide you with cherished memories.
